hello mate
peg 9 is the peg i fished last year for the anglers mail feature
fishing 6' off the island always produces, there's a bit of weed in front of 9 and 10 at the moment but its only thin stuff so don;t let it deter you.
here's a taster from last year (october)

they were all caught using method feeder tactics over a good bed of bait with corn and maggot as hook bait cheers

Just out of interest Gaz, how did you present your maggot? On a bait ring?

what i normally do is to hair rig the corn and put a couple of red maggots on the hook itself, the theory being this acts as another attractant but also breaks up the shape of the hook.I also put maggots into the method mix,so when the ball rests on the lake bed the maggots crawl out of the ball, breaking it up thus leaking the attractants faster.simple but its worked on lots of different venues
I have seen lads on welham using maggot clips with success.I'm pretty sure tim nixons 17lber in march fell to this tactic

Interesting, ta!

I've used maggots in method mixes before myself (often use a Fox method feeder with a central maggot compartment), but never at Welham............... not yet anyway Exclamation Wink

I had all but one of my fish on the maggot ring. Where I tie the ring on the hair, leave enough room from the hair and the shank of the hook for a fake maggot to go on,this not only camouflages the hook better, but gives a bit on bouyancy to the hook,so allows it to sit up a bit off the bottom.
The 17lb'er I had fell to one of Stotty's own baits, the big commons love the stuff Twisted Evil

i think scaling your hook size down helps 100% and also making your baits critically balanced if not buoyant which will turn the hook under your bait making it less visable to the un suspecting carp, i think it's very important that we recognize how good a carps under water vision is and cammo of the hook and hook length is vital, personally i have adopted the train of thought, "the less you put onto your rigs, the less the carp see's"
